For this art-science deCYPher lab, the participants headed to Ghent for three days of immersive hands-on workshops, bringing together the art residencies of the deCYPher and Bioindustry4.0 projects.

The lab invited 15 artists into scientific institutions and facilities that are part of deCYPher project to learn more about the project and processes, and explore how artistic and multidisciplinary approaches can play a role in moulding these.

Biofaction used this opportunity to mix two art-science projects, deCYPher lab and SPIKA from Mi-Hy, and spark conversations between curious minds. They organised an evening lecture by Rachel Armstrong, the Regenerative Architecture team and Işıl Yücel, a Mi-Hy PhD student from KU Leuven, who was invited to participate in the deCYPher lab. Her dual involvement was a meaningful link between the two projects.

Participants visited their studio at KU Leuven and were introduced to living architecture and SPIKA, the six-meter installation sheltering deep-tech-enhanced biodiversity, developed within the Mi-Hy project for Triennale Milano in May 2025.
