August 23rd to 24th Mi-Hy will join Maker Faire Hannover to showcase recent research and demonstrate how microbial fuel cell (MFC) technology can power hydroponics systems. Participants will learn about our integrated approach and build MFCs on their own from ceramics and activated carbon. Partners from the University of Southampton, KU Leuven and Biofaction will share latest research in the areas and carefully guide the workshop.
You will discover how microbial fuel cells integrate with hydroponic systems to sustainably support plant root growth by making nitrogen and phosphates from wastewater available to plants, while providing energy. Microbes in the MFC generate electricity, clean water and recover nutrients that can feed plants directly, reducing the need for external emission-costly fertilizers. This creates a closed-loop system that combines wastewater treatment, energy production, and sustainable farming in one innovative solution.
Maker Faire is a worldwide, family-friendly event, which brings together a diverse community of DIY creators, inventor and tinkerers from professionals to passionate hobbyists. For Mi-Hy this represent the perfect opportunity.
By connecting with the DIY and hacker communities, Mi-Hy aims to democratize biotechnology to make sustainable solutions available to everyone. Our goal is to spark conversations about reimagining food systems and empowering communities with circular technology they can build themselves.
