On July 9th, Mi-Hy will hold the first public workshop – “Learn to harness microbial fuel cell technology combined with hydroponics”. The workshop will be held in Prague within FAB25, the annual international gathering of the global FabLab community. Held in a different country each year, and for the first time in Central Europe, FAB25 brings together makers, researchers, educators, and innovators to explore the future of digital fabrication.

As part of the program, Mi-Hy workshop will focus on microbial fuel cell (MFCs), the core technology at heart of the Mi-Hy project. Participants will learn how microbial fuel cells work, build their own MFCs following a tutorial developed by Mi-Hy team, and take part in a conversation around the project.

The Mi-Hy system represents a breakthrough in sustainable agriculture technology. The system will modulate nitrogen forms, plant root microbiomes optimise nitrogen uptake, and mobilise phosphorous, averting the need for chemical fertilisers. This circular, sustainable platform turns carbon into biomass and reclaims nitrogen from wastewater streams while powering itself through bacterial processes.

Engaging with DIY and hacker communities plays a crucial role for Mi-Hy. The project aims to promote accessible and open-source technology tools and foster discussions about future of food production and grassroot circular technology. This workshop marks the beginning of a series exploring different aspects of the Mi-Hy system, starting with MFCs as the foundational component.
